The Ways to Foster Unity

The Ways to Foster Unity
As we know that sociologist hold different opinions on the definition of racial unity.  Some believe that unity means the unification language, culture and sharing the same values.  But others disagree that racial unity is based on the unification of these factors.   However, in my opinion, I strongly believe that unity in diversity and diversity in conformity work best in a multiracial country like Malaysia.
Unity works best when an individual can abandon his prejudice and practise tolerance, co-operation and understanding to work for the greater goals:  peace, harmony, prosperity, goodwill and well-being of the country.
Being a multi-racial country, Malaysia must take racial unity a must to preserve the integrity of the nation.  Unity is the bedrock where political stability is built upon.  Only with the political stability, we will create an environment conducive to both the local and foreign investments and so set on the gear of economic development.
A united multi-racial society must have the following characteristics.  First, people are able and willing to communicate and co-operate with one another.  Secondly, different opinions and views are respected.  Thirdly, there are no racial prejudice and discrimination.  Fourthly, people share the common ideas and moral values.
Therefore,  unity means co-operation and understanding, so a national language is necessary as it will enable the various races to understand each other better and be in good will.  At the same time, each race must be encouraged and allowed to use and develop their own language as well.  To learn the language of one another helps understand the customs, practices and taboos of other races better.
Moreover, unity also means that people are imbued with these moral values like justice, equality, goodwill, friendship, cop-operation and respect.  The family, school and school education must instil these universal values.
Furthermore,  unity means the laws and policies that are carried out to safeguard the rights and position of people regardless of race, creed and religion.
Thus, I believe the factors I have mentioned above are the best ways to foster unity and co-operations.  What do you think?

A fire accident

A fire accident
Last night while I was reading in my bedroom until late in the night, suddenly I smelt something burning.  Out of curiosity  I went out of my bedroom to check.  To my horror, I saw columns of smoke billowing out of Mary’s house.
Without a second thought, I rushed to alert my parents.  Immediately, my father called for the fire brigade.  Then we each carried a bucket and dashed to her house.  We shouted and screamed to alert the other neighbours nearby.  By then, Mary’s and her family had come out of the house.  They tried to salvage as many items from the kitchen as possible.  We all tried to put out the fire but without avail as the fire was too strong and made worse by the wind which was blowing fiercely then.      Luckily, the firemen arrived in 15 minutes and they started work straight away.  They acted speedily to connect the water hose to the fire hydrant and sprayed water on the fire at full force.  The firemen fought the fire bravely and efficiently.  To our relief,  the fire was put under control within 20 minutes before it spread to another section of the house.
Fortunately, the kitchen and smoke room section of the house was separated by a veranda of about 30 feet long from the house proper.  The kitchen and the smoke room were totally destroyed.  Almost all the kitchen utensils were gutted in the fire.  They also lost an oven, a refrigerator, a gas stove and two induction cookers.
It was believed that the short circuit was the main cause of fire.  The estimated loss in the fire was about RM30,000.  But they were grateful that no one was injured.

How I spent my last long school holidays

These are the model compositions I wrote for my students to refer to, not for memorising.    Students are advised to write compositions creatively. .
How I spent my last long school holidays
My last holidays lasted for about 6 weeks.  I spent my 6 weeks long holidays meaningfully and happily.  I truly enjoyed the different activities I took part in.
As soon as the holidays started, my friends and I organised a trip to Kuching.  We stayed at my uncle’s house.  The next day, we visited many places of interest there.  We went to the zoo, the museum, gift shops and so on.
We also went to the Damai beach.  We had a lot of fun swimming there.  The scenery there was just fascinating.  We all enjoyed watching lurid sunrise and sunset at the beach.
We were in Kuching for about 2 weeks before we went back to Sibu.  I went swimming with my friends every Sunday.  I also attended cookery lessons.  I learnt how to make cakes and biscuits.  The lessons were really enjoyable.  Besides, we also went to various interesting places to explore.  We gained a lot of experience and knowledge.
Every now and then,  I also went window shopping with my family.  I went to the library whenever I could.
I truly enjoyed my last long school holidays to my heart’s content.  I gained a lot of experience and knowledge that I could hardly get from school textbooks

How I spent my last long school holidays

How I spent my last long school holidays
My last school holidays was about 6 weeks long.  It was really exciting and interesting.  Thus I enjoyed myself fully.  Before the holiday started, my parents had already planned the holidays.
Thus as soon as the holidays started, my parents brought to Singapore for a week.  We stayed at a hotel.  We had a great time there.  We visited many places of interest like the zoo, the museum, the Disneyland, the water park and other recreational parks.  It was really an eye opener for me and my siblings.  Besides, we also went shopping and bought many things I wanted.
At the end of the week, we went sight-seeing to several states like Johore, Malacca, Kelantan, Penang and Pahang  in West Malaysia for a week.  We travelled around by train whenever we could as we really enjoyed the ride.  Of all the states, I think Malacca was the most impressive and fascinating to me.  It is a place where I could trace so many historical sites.  I enjoyed the delicacies and specialities at different places, too.
For the remaining 4 weeks, we stayed in Sibu.  But my parents also organised many fun-filled activities for us.  We went on a picnic to different places every now and then.  We sometimes also travelled outstation to go sightseeing around.
We all enjoyed swimming,  so my parents brought us to go swimming in the swimming pool, at the beach or sometimes even in the river.   My parents also organised camping trips and invited several of my uncles’ and aunts’ families to join us at Batu Aup Jubilee Park and other recreational parks.  These experiences are memorable and wonderful to me.
Besides, I also went to attend a week-long cookery course.  I learnt how to bake cakes and biscuits.  I also joined Chinese calligraphy class to learn how to write with a brush.  It was interesting, too.  Moreover, I also went to the library to read and borrow books.  I read at least 8 interesting books during my last school holidays.
I truly enjoyed my last long school holidays to my heart’s content.  I gained a lot of life experience and knowledge that I could hardly get from the school textbooks.
