A fire accident

A fire accident
Last night while I was reading in my bedroom until late in the night, suddenly I smelt something burning.  Out of curiosity  I went out of my bedroom to check.  To my horror, I saw columns of smoke billowing out of Mary’s house.
Without a second thought, I rushed to alert my parents.  Immediately, my father called for the fire brigade.  Then we each carried a bucket and dashed to her house.  We shouted and screamed to alert the other neighbours nearby.  By then, Mary’s and her family had come out of the house.  They tried to salvage as many items from the kitchen as possible.  We all tried to put out the fire but without avail as the fire was too strong and made worse by the wind which was blowing fiercely then.      Luckily, the firemen arrived in 15 minutes and they started work straight away.  They acted speedily to connect the water hose to the fire hydrant and sprayed water on the fire at full force.  The firemen fought the fire bravely and efficiently.  To our relief,  the fire was put under control within 20 minutes before it spread to another section of the house.
Fortunately, the kitchen and smoke room section of the house was separated by a veranda of about 30 feet long from the house proper.  The kitchen and the smoke room were totally destroyed.  Almost all the kitchen utensils were gutted in the fire.  They also lost an oven, a refrigerator, a gas stove and two induction cookers.
It was believed that the short circuit was the main cause of fire.  The estimated loss in the fire was about RM30,000.  But they were grateful that no one was injured.
